Over the course of five days in March 2016, Google’s AlphaGo secured victory against 18-time world Go champion Lee Se-dol by winning four out of five games in a match in Seoul. Go is an east Asian game that is famous for its deep complexity and whose possible moves are said to exceed the number of atoms in the universe. Worth noting though is the fact that Lee chalked up one match victory which shows that this AI system can make mistakes or be outwitted. In other words, there’s still room for further progress and development despite this incredible achievement.
